Whitens your skin, removes wrinkles and slims down your cheeks!, October 31, 2015

Personally I got this phone to use for a month-long research trip in Costa Rica (so yes to the previous poster, a lo mejor sí funciona en Venezuela). The last time I worked abroad I got an old, used, unlocked Treo, bought a SIM card down there and it worked perfectly.

I think this is a fabulous starter phone for a young person. It’s very light (very light) and you can get all the great apps from the Google Play store. I currently use a Galaxy Note 4 and any app I have on that phone I can use on this one. I don’t store music on my phone (or many photos for that matter) but even if you do, you can get up to a 64GB card for this phone, and that right there stores thousands and photos and songs, a typical week for a youngster. Plus the glass is Gorilla Glass, perfect for tiny hands that tend to drop things often.

The phone seems to be tailored (and dedicated) to the art of the Selfie. When you press the camera icon to turn it around to face you, many icons appear on the screen to help you with the selfie art. If I click on “eyes”, there is a feature that can whiten the whites and sharpen the iris! I click on “slim face” and then is another slider that will slim down my chubby cheeks. Then there is the icon for “smoothen skin” which opens up another slider to remove wrinkles and blemishes. Finally there is the “whitening” icon which whitens (?) your skin to the desired level. As a Black woman I was skeptical about this one but it looks like it whitens the same areas in which you would use contouring makeup to highlight your face.

The battery life is great! I charged it to 100% yesterday morning. I admit that I didn’t use the phone all that much, but right now, 36 hours later, the phone is at 98%. My Note would have gone down to about 75% for sure!

This is a great phone dedicated to selfies with lots of apps installed, great for young people who might be prone to losing their phone and who loves selfies.

A good, inexpensive, unlocked phone, that works well for most uses and would make a great starter phone, November 15, 2015

This is a very good starter camera. It’s a smartphone, with most of the features you’d want or need from an android phone, but you can buy it unlocked and it doesn’t cost a lot. When we first bought a phone for my son on our AT&T plan we got it on an installment plan, and were paying monthly. Then he lost it … and we needed a replacement but since we were still paying off the first phone we didn’t want to add another payment on top of that. This is a good alternative. It is, really, nearly as full featured as the other phone that would have cost about three times as much.

It’s got a bigger screen than my iPhone 5c, but it is small enough to fit easily in the hand. It comes with a protective case and a plastic screen protector. It also comes with headphones. The storage is enough to fit several apps and photographs and songs. What’s really nice, though, is that you can expand its memory by adding a standard microSD card.

It takes two sim cards, so that you can switch between them if you use one for traveling or if you have two different phone accounts. It was very easy to hook it up to our AT&T family plan.

The feature they advertise with this one is the ease with which it takes selfies. Clearly they know what kids want to be doing with their phones … The photographic quality is pretty good. It’s not quite as good as it would be on some of the more expensive phones but you’d expect that. It does have some handy built in features that you can use to improve the look of self-portrait photos, without needing to import them into a more complicated application.

Overall this is a good, handy, phone. It’s easy to use and not terribly inexpensive. It can be connected with most standard phone plans.

The one drawback is battery life. With regular use it only lasts a few hours. It doesn’t last quite as long as my older iPhone, for example. It doesn’t last as long as my son’s previous phone either (an HTC Desire 626). Still, for the cost, this is a very good phone. I would definitely recommend it as a starter phone for kids and it would, really, be a good, inexpensive phone that does most of what you need for most people’s uses.

This review is for an unlocked 8GB phone using a T-Mobile SIM card. It is a pretty good phone, but there are some drawbacks.

The good: The size of the device itself is better than my old iPod at over 5.5″. It is bright and mod looking with all the pretty little lights and bells to keep your brain occupied. The camera, which is the big draw to the phone is satisfactory. The pictures can be edited before taking to thin out the face or get rid of blemishes. You can also edit afterward. I currently have a BlackBerry Passport 10 that does the same thing, so I was familiar with the settings and features of the camera. The clarity of the camera is okay… if you hold it still. It does the autofocus quite slowly. I also took several pictures of my puppyperson to see how the red eye came out. There is no red eye feature that I could find, which I thought was strange. I had to tap the flash myself, which is not easy with a puppyperson who would rather take a nap than have a bright light flashed in her face. Flicking the flash myself took out most of the red eye but not all. Maybe my puppyperson is just a little evil….

Most of the apps you want are already loaded on the device, which is good. The bad part is there is only 8GB of memory and you only have four left. This is a Google based phone so you have to set up gmail if you haven’t already. The app stores available are Google play store and Amazon. That’s pretty good. My BlackBerry is very limited with only Amazon and the BlackBerry World. But my BlackBerry 10 has an operating system of 32GB. The Blu can take a memory card. I have used memory cards in devices before and had problems. I’m not talking off brands or used ones; I’m talking the kind the device manufacturer recommends and I still have problems. So the memory issue is a bad for me.

Here is some good: for the $80 price, you not only get the adapter, but you get a case and screen protector. I not only thought that was cool, I think that is the way it should always be. The protector is shiny and brings out all the apps, but bad in the sun or if you want to read a book. The phone surface has two small raised dots and my BFF had a fit because she wants screen protectors to go on perfect. We don’t know, what purpose the dots are for.

The bad: opening the dang case! The directions say in four different languages, to open the case and insert battery and SIM card. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell you how to open the case. I was afraid I’d damage the phone so I used an exactoknife to pry it open. I did shake it pretty hard and the battery stayed in place.

I like the wallpaper the best. Seriously, there is a moving wallpaper that is a space vortex and really cool. I really like the browser. My BlackBerry browser is the worst feature on the phone. The Blu works great and is easy to use and find history. There is a IM feature that is easy to use once it is set up. It is Android based.

The phone quality is pretty good. I can’t really tell because I have T-Mobile. The operating system is quick. The soft close is similar to the new Apple products.

As an adult, would I buy this phone for myself? Probably not. With all the potential apps you can load, I would rather pay for more operating system memory. This phone is a step down from a BlackBerry or Apple.

As an adult, would I buy this for one of my kids? Yes, this is a step up for my younger son who is in college. This would actually make a great gift for a teenager. I think if a teen is responsible, this phone at this price would be fine. If the teen is still irresponsible, get them a flip phone.
